Kwiambal National Park, NSW, Australia
Kwiambal (= Ki-am-ble) is a tiny national park in northern New South Wales, some 70km north of Inverell. We stumbled upon it one hot January day, and ended up staying for a couple of nights. In fact, Kwiambal is the kind of place where you could easily hang out for a week or two.

The Kwiambal National Park is located to the north west of Ashford. You travel along the Coolatai Road about 25Km to find the park. It is located at the junction of the Severn and Macintyre Rivers. Pronounced Ki-am-bal, the park has an area of around 2600 hectares and features some spectacular waterfalls, steep sided valleys and River Red Gums.

About 90km north of Inverell, remote Kwiambal National Park (pronounced kigh-am-bal) sits at the junction of the Macintyre and Severn Rivers. Little visited, it's an important conservation area for the Tumbledown Gum and Caley's Ironbark and a great place for hiking, biking and birdwatching. Spots such as Macintyre Falls are also good for.

Pronounced Kigh-am-bal, Kwiambal National Park is a quiet achiever. Tucked away near the NSW-Queensland border, its isolation is also its attraction: come for the nature, stay for the privacy. There's a good chance you'll have a great deal of space to yourself, with day trippers travelling through the outback and grey nomads the most frequent visitors in the area.

The Severn River has huge granite slabs on its edges, some with scars from being ground down under the pressure of flooding water mixed with gravel.
